SQL Simplified
Have you ever opened a database at work and not known where to start?
Maybe you've picked up bits of SQL from tutorials and videos, but it doesn't quite fit together. You can copy a query that someone else wrote, but you're not confident writing your own.
SQL Simplified takes you from the basics up to intermediate SQL, one step at a time. You'll set up your own database, write real queries, and build up to the features people actually use at work.
You'll be able to:
- Set up a database and SQL editor on your own computer, and create your first tables
- Filter, sort and find the exact rows you need using the WHERE clause
- Relate tables with primary and foreign keys, and combine them using joins
- Analyse your data with functions, aggregates, GROUP BY and CASE
- Use intermediate features like subqueries, CTEs, views and window functions
All examples are shown in Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and I'll help you choose one if you're not sure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this course for?
It's for people who are new to SQL, or who know a little and want to fill in the gaps. That includes people moving into a data analyst role, and developers who want to be more confident working with databases. If you already write SQL every day and want your queries to run faster, Write Faster SQL is a better fit.
Which database should I choose?
Early in the course, I'll show you how to choose between Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and how to install the one you pick. The fundamentals are almost exactly the same, so it's easy to switch later. If you use something else, like Snowflake or DB2, the concepts still apply with some minor adjustments.
What software do I need?
You'll use a database on your own computer and an SQL editor. I show you how to set up VS Code with the SQL Developer extension, SSMS, MySQL Workbench and DBeaver. If you prefer a different editor, that's fine, because no editor-specific features are needed.
I don't have much time. Will I get through it?
The lessons are short, and the Weekly Action Plan breaks the course into 30-minute blocks, so you can make progress even with a busy week.
Do I get access to everything at once?
Yes. You get all the lessons and bonuses as soon as you enrol, and you keep access for life.
