Effective Oracle PL/SQL
Have you ever opened a PL/SQL procedure at work and struggled to follow what it was doing?
PL/SQL can feel like a different language from the SQL you already know. There are variables, loops, packages and error handling, and most explanations assume you've seen it all before.
Effective Oracle PL/SQL starts with your very first piece of code and builds up to the techniques used in real projects, one step at a time.
You'll be able to:
- Write, run and change stored procedures, starting with a simple "hello world"
- Use variables and input and output parameters, and insert, update and delete data from a procedure
- Control the flow of your code with IF statements and loops, and handle and log errors
- Create functions, triggers (including an audit table) and packages
- Debug your code in SQL Developer and write tests using utPLSQL
- Keep your code in version control with GitHub, and make changes safely when requirements change

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know advanced Oracle concepts?
No. You only need a basic understanding of SQL, such as creating a table and writing SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements. The course includes the scripts and steps for anything else.
What software do you use?
I mainly use Oracle SQL Developer, with the Oracle HR sample database. For testing, I use utPLSQL, which works within SQL Developer. You can also follow along in other editors, like the SQL Developer extension for VS Code.
My team doesn't use stored procedures. Will this help me?
It can. You can write your own PL/SQL scripts to work with data without creating stored procedures, and you'll have the skills ready for future roles.
I don't have much time. Will I get through it?
The lessons are short, you get everything as soon as you enrol, and you keep access for life. The course PDF is there to refresh your memory when you need it later.
